Board of Directors

Brayden Huys
President
As the president of the SUC, Brayden's passion for scuba diving began during a memorable winter getaway to Puerto Vallarta. This experience opened his eyes to the incredible beauty and adventure that lies beneath the waves. A few summers later, he joined the newly formed RSSC, immersing himself in the local diving community and exploring the fascinating underwater landscapes of local lakes. This journey has fueled his commitment to promoting scuba diving as a thrilling sport and a gateway to new experiences. Brayden is dedicated to inspiring others to dive in and discover the wonders of the underwater world, fostering a community that shares this passion and works together to protect aquatic environments.

Brian Lanktree
Vice President
Brian received his Open Water Diving Certificate in 2010. From a young age, he spent much of his time around water, whether skiing, swimming, or snorkeling. During a winter vacation, he participated in a discovery dive, an experience that marked the beginning of his diving journey.
Upon returning home, Brian connected with an acquaintance from work who co-owned a dive shop. This connection introduced him to the Moose Jaw Barracudas Dive Club, where he found camaraderie among fellow divers. Inspired by the sense of fellowship, Brian pursued additional certifications, deepening his involvement in the diving community. He has always appreciated the welcoming and supportive nature of the divers he has met along the way.

Ed Lloyd
Secretary
Ed grew up on a Saskatchewan farm, where he developed a love for water activities. Inspired by Jacques Cousteau, he earned his open water certification in 1982. After a brief hiatus, he rekindled his passion in 1991 and became a PADI instructor by 1992, achieving Master Scuba Diver Trainer and Public Safety Diver ratings.
Ed has dived in Grand Cayman, Nanaimo, and Yellowknife, but Saskatchewan remains his primary diving spot. He always finds a reason to dive, whether for camaraderie, curiosity, adventure, or skill maintenance. Teaching and diving in Saskatchewan continue to excite him, no matter the season or weather.

Les Francis
Director at Large
Les Francis pursued scuba certifications after a few years of snorkeling enjoyment. Les obtained his first certification, PADI Scuba Diver, in 2012. Not long after came certifications of Open Water, Advanced Open Water and Rescue Diver. Next up is his Dive Master Certification, which he hopes to utilize when he retires by guiding divers in beautiful Akumal, Mexico.
Les enjoys taking pictures of all the wonderful creatures he comes across. These images are what keep him sane and happy during the long surface intervals between dive trips!

Sheldon Funk
Grants Director
Sheldon Funk has been an avid scuba diver for 25 years, discovering his passion in 2000 after attending a discover scuba class. He earned his open water certification in October 2000 and gradually immersed himself in the local dive community. Funk advanced his skills through numerous courses, becoming a Dive Master in 2010 and achieving the prestigious level of Open Water Instructor in 2014, and eventually the title of Master Scuba Diver Trainer, allowing him to teach specialty dives like ice diving. Throughout his diving journey, he has explored remarkable sites, including a WWII airplane wreck in Hawaii, the Spiegel Grove Shipwreck off Florida, and Great White Shark cage diving in Guadalupe, Mexico. Despite these adventures, Funk finds comfort diving locally at Lake Diefenbaker and Whiteswan Lake, where he honed his skills and continues to explore new underwater horizons.

Crystal Fink
Programss Director
Crystal Fink is an Open Water diver who has been diving since 2018. She loves warm-water diving, especially in Cozumel, where the clear water and vibrant reefs keep calling her back. When she’s not underwater, Crystal enjoys planning vacations and dreaming up her next great adventure.

Luke Sitter
Director at Large
Luke's first dive took place at the Great Barrier Reef in 2006 while he was living and working on a banana farm in Tully, Australia. A year later, he ventured into cold water diving while residing on Vancouver Island. Currently, Luke serves as the dive team lead for the Regina Fire Department and co-owns Fireside Scuba in Lumsden. His summers growing up were spent at the cabin on Last Mountain Lake and camping in Narrow Hills, both of which remain cherished locations for him to explore, both above and below the water, to this day.

Since becoming more active in 2007, Tim has earned his AOW, Rescue, Ice, Full Face Mask, and Public Safety Diving certifications. While he doesn’t claim a single favourite dive type or location, his most memorable dives include Ogden Point’s Breakwater in Victoria, bull sharks and cenotes in Mexico, lionfish spearing in Jamaica, unforgettable marine life encounters in Costa Rica, ice diving at Candle Lake, trout spawning in White Swan, and navigating Heritage entirely by memory.

Karen Francis
Regina Scuba & Snorkel Club
Karen Francis has loved the water and was swimming for as long as she can remember. After enjoying snorkeling for a few years, she decided to "try" diving in 2012. The try turned into her PADI Scuba Diver certification, quickly followed by an Open Water Certification and Advance Open Water Certification. A couple years later a Rescue Certification was obtained; her Dive Master certification is close on the horizon.
Karen loves all aquatic animals - sharks, turtles and dolphins - Oh My!!
Karen is extremely grateful that scuba has enabled her to be a real-life mermaid!
